The effects of season and lineage on TB: old questions, new insights?

Seasonal trends in the timing of TB diagnoses have been noted at different latitudes. Differences in clinical phenotypes have been described by lineage, largely on the basis of single-country studies. With the accumulation of whole-genome sequencing data we have new opportunities to revisit old epidemiological questions at the local level through transmission studies and at the global level through data sharing. I will present data from two studies that offer some new insights into TB transmission dynamics, and into the clinical manifestations of ancient versus modern lineages.
