A Summary of the major points of the candidate's research work
Jody’s research focuses on developing and applying bioinformatics tools to analyse Mycobacterial next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. He leads the development of TB-Profiler, a tool for predicting drug resistance based on a curated catalogue of resistance mutations. His work also aims to improve access to genomic data and analysis software, including the creation of a live database of resistance-associated mutations from all publicly available genome sequences in the sequence read archive. Additionally, he investigates novel resistance determinants using genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and targeted analysis of highly resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains. Currently, his research is expanding to nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTMs), focusing on accurate species identification, resistance prediction, and detecting closely related isolates to better understand infection dynamics.
