A Summary of the major points of the candidate's research work

Chloé Jacquet is currently working on Mycobacterium abscessus (Mabs), a highly drug-resistant nontuberculous mycobacterium increasingly affecting vulnerable populations, particularly cystic fibrosis patients. Current therapies for Mabs are lengthy, toxic, and frequently unsuccessful—underscoring the urgent need for new treatment options.

Among other antibitoics, she is investigating fidaxomicin, a macrocyclic antibiotic, for repurposing against Mabs. Her research has demonstrated its antimicrobial efficacy and identified promising synergistic effects when combined with existing antibiotics such as azithromycin, imipenem, and tigecycline. These findings open new avenues for more effective combination therapies.

She has also been instrumental in developing advanced in vitro models in our PHAR2 lab, including extended intracellular infection systems using macrophages. These models more accurately reflect Mabs infection dynamics and allow for robust PK/PD evaluations—an essential step toward optimizing antibiotic regimens.

In addition, she actively contributes to the European ETrACE initiative, a COST Action focused on accelerating the development of therapies for NTM infections.
