Dr. Vanni Bucci is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Physiological Systems at UMass Chan Medical School. Dr. Bucci is a member of the Program in Microbiome Dynamics and Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis. An engineer and computational biologist by training Dr. Bucci’s research spans the development and application of synthetic biology and machine learning methods to understand the effect of host-associated microbiome on host health. For the last six years, Dr. Bucci has lead research in where advanced machine learning methods (developed in our group) were used to determine associations between the intestinal microbiome, host immunity and response to anti-TB treatment. The results of the research have been published in several peer-reviewed publications. Under funding from the US National Institute of Health, Dr. Bucci and collaborators are expanding the development of human-interpretable machine learning methods to multi-omic data to determine how the microbiome, dietary intervention, medications and host-genotype affect TB resolution in humans.
