Chief of the Clinical Microbiology Department at Hospital Universitari “Germans Trias i Pujol” and Professor of Microbiology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
He is studying tuberculosis (TB) from an immunopathogenic point of view, using several experimental modelling “in vitro”, “in vivo” and “in silico”, nowadays focused in the development of the Drosophila TB model. He has lead several clinical trials on TB vaccines. Inventor of RUTI immunotherapy against TB and working in Mycolicibacterium
immunomodulation properties, he is interested in host-pathogen co-evolution, especially in mycobacteria. He is also leading the TB active surveillance through WGS of Mtb strains, prospectively, to support the Public Health Agency of Catalonia.
